Stephen King has always floored us with his ability to tell scary stories from a child’s perspective. Toward the beginning of The Institute, 12-year-old Luke is kidnapped and placed in a facility for kids with psychic powers, where the physical abuse they endure pales in comparison to the brutal psychological manipulation. As he did in It and Firestarter, King perfectly captures the combination of terror and resilience that makes his young characters feel real and compelling. We felt fiercely protective of Luke and his ragtag crew as they slowly uncovered the truth about their captors’ plans. The world King has crafted gave us all the chills.

Best Book Ever
Best book ever! King’s writing allows you to feel as if you personally know each character in real life. This is a book I will always remember.
Hooked
This book had me hooked from the beginning.
I was turning pages faster than I had in a long time, however the second half of the book took a turn for me and the ending left me underwhelmed. Still, I was left thinking about this book for days after it had been returned to its rightful owner.
Couldn’t put it down
King is a master of developing characters we love and ones we despise. This book doesn’t disappoint. You know from the beginning that characters Tim Jamieson and Luke Ellis are destined to cross paths but when they do, readers will be surprised what character ends up saving the day. This is a book all king fans will love.
