Publisher Description

'The Fifth Gospel is that rare story: erudite and a page-turner, literary but compulsively readable' David Baldacci

2004. As Pope John Paul II's reign enters its twilight, a mysterious exhibit is under construction at the Vatican Museums. A week before it is scheduled to open, its curator is murdered. The same night, a violent break-in rocks the home of the curator's research partner, Father Alex Andreou, a Greek Catholic priest who lives inside the Vatican with his five-year-old son. When the papal police fail to identify a suspect in either crime, Father Alex, desperate to keep his family safe, undertakes his own investigation.

To find the killer he must reconstruct the dead curator's secret. But just as he begins to understand the truth about his friend's death, and its consequences for the future of the world's two largest Christian Churches, Father Alex finds himself hunted down ...

Captivating read from the get-go

I really enjoyed this book, meticulous research must have been done to carry off a crime set in and around the Vatican, demonstrating knowledge of the administration, the buildings, the hierarchy and the tensions between the various factions within the Catholic Church. But also the theology to weave such an intriguing set of arguments and counter arguments within the who-done-it plot. I wasn’t surprised to learn that it took the author ten years to complete! Had me motivated to read it from start to finish.
A tremendous read and not a religious book at all, in spite of what potential readers might think reading the title and what I’ve written here.

The Fifth Gospel

An absolutely brilliant book. Everybody should read this. The research done was well worth it. The author has created a masterpiece of fact and fiction.

The Fifth Gospel

A challenging read, which absorbs you into the complexities of the Vatican world, Christianity and human morals and beliefs. After a while I became enthralled, I questioned my own views and perceptions of the biblical texts and indeed the Shroud, enjoying all the historical content and references . JJ
