The Complete Sherlock Holmes

My 4 star rating for this book is purely for the brilliance of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories - cleverly crafted to give so much in what are mainly very short tales - which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. However if I could give a separate star rating for how this ebook is put together it would barely merit 1 star! The text seems like an early version that has completely bypassed both the proofreader and copy editor, there are so many spelling errors plus what appear to be American spellings and the contents list order for part of the book does not match the order of the stories in the text, with some titles appearing twice. But perhaps the worst error is that none of the graphics are present. There are at least 2 stories where graphics are essential parts of them but all you get in this version is the word ‘graphic’, this is especially problematic in ‘The Adventure of the Dancing Men’ where the graphics are crucial to the reader’s understanding of the story and Holmes’s methods and the lack of the graphics completely spoils the reader’s ability to follow this story properly. Surely it can’t be that difficult to include these graphics in this day and age. Finally when you do get to the end of the last story the book just stops, no epilogue or anything to tie it up / explain why Conan Doyle stopped writing Holmes’s stories where he did etc, which I think would have been a better finish to the book instead of it plunging you into a chapter of what appears to be a modern Watson / Holmes story by the author of the introduction to this book. Overall I would say this ebook is a catalogue of errors that shouldn’t be there and is only saved by the great storytelling of Conan Doyle. Don’t be deceived by the flash cover, I am sure there are better collections of these stories out there and would say to you go and get one of them instead then maybe the publishers might fix this version if they really want people to read it.

i've always held a grudge against e books but my pov was completely changed after reading this book. The work and the writer are beyond my scope, Doyle is without any doubt one of the greatest fiction writer and this is his best.

Obviously, the stories were good, but I was shocked by the number of spelling mistakes and other typos!
