Great book for real fans

There’s one written review here that misses the point. That 2-star review is based on the customer’s anger that the book isn’t what he wants. Ugh. This book is a great overview of the series, with a lot of historical information about many of the episodes, including how stories evolved from their inception into what ended up on screen. Not every episode has such detailed historical info, but the fact is this is the only book in print that even touches that subject. It’s a fun read, especially for fans who have watched every episode.

OK but disappointing

Most of the content is episode summary, which most fans don’t need. The actual background information is scant, with a lot of filler, desperate to fill space, which suggests it wasn’t very well researched. For example, when the author has nothing to say about an episode, there’s typically a list of all the things “we see first” or “learn about” as oppposed to the actual production of the episode. The rest is season credits, lists of episode titles, and information on who wrote the episode, who directed it, and other stuff most of us don’t care about or isn’t at all interesitng. It’s pretty unentertaining, and the author is just plain lazy, like a high school kid trying to reach a word quota for a paper. If you’re a long-time fan, you probably won’t learn anyhting you don’t already know. The book is aboslutely not worth $15.
