Publisher Description
The ultimate fly-on-the wall memoir packed with revelations, intimate insights, and history-making moments from the tour manager, friend, lover, and confidante to some of the most revered rock icons of the 60's, 70's and 80's.
Chris O’Dell wasn’t famous. She wasn’t even almost famous. But she was there. From witnessing music history in the recording studio with The Beatles to working for The Rolling Stones during their infamous 1972 American tour, Chris O'Dell has seen and worked for the most influential musicians in rock history during some of their most intimate and awe-inspiring moments.
She was in the studio when the Beatles recorded The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be, and she sang in the Hey Jude chorus. She lived with George Harrison and Pattie Boyd and unwittingly got involved in Pattie’s famous love story with Eric Clapton. She’s the subject of Leon Russell’s Pisces Apple Lady. She’s “the woman down the hall” in Joni Mitchell’s song Coyote, the “mystery woman” pictured on the Stones album Exile on Main Street, and the Miss O’Dell of George Harrison’s song.
The remarkable, intimate story of an ordinary woman who lived the dream of millions—to be part of rock royalty’s inner circle—Miss O’Dell is a backstage pass to some of the most momentous events in rock history.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Ever wonder what was really going on in the studio when the Beatles recorded the White Album? Chris O'Dell offers these entertaining vignettes of her backstage experiences with the boys in the bands Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, and Eric Clapton for whom she was variously muse, lover, typist, confidante, and, on one occasion, drug runner. O'Dell pops up with Zelig-like ubiquity in pop music's most iconic moments, and the book is a gossip gold mine but it's also a deeply felt account of living a full life, with all its concomitant regrets. Renee Raudman delivers a stunning wallop of a recording that captures the essence of the stories with easy glamour and raw emotion. A Touchstone hardcover.
Customer Reviews
In-depth & all around interesting story
But...fair warning to Clapton fans: Miss O'Dell clearly despised EC & still does, I don't think there's 1 kind word about him here. If you're a Beatles/George Harrison/Rolling Stones fan this is an excellent read, interesting & believable story.
Reading Now
I purchased this book years ago but things happened and I never got to finish reading it. In fact I didn’t get very far into it. So now that it’s 2023, I decided to try again. I like it so far. I will update this after I get far enough to add some value to my review. In the meantime, if you’re interested, download a Sample from the Apple Book Store.
Groupies Story
The book tells you about life and working behind the scene of Rock and Roll life style. I just do not like her one side of opinion and an attitude. Read Pattie Boyd book instead if you are interested in how the 60s and 70s were like!
