Publisher Description
A modern Manhattan fairy tale with the sparkle of a champagne cocktail, Tinsley Mortimer’s debut novel provides a delicious peek into her world of society, fashion, and big-city fame.
SOUTHERN GIRL Minty Davenport has always dreamed of skyscrapers, yellow cabs, and a life like Eloise’s in New York City. So upon graduation from college, she bids adieu to Charleston and makes a beeline for the Big Apple. Almost instantly, she finds herself at an event being photographed for Women’s Wear Daily, and her career as a New York society “It Girl” is launched. As Minty navigates the ironclad customs of New York society, a blossoming love life, and a job working for a ruthless and powerful publicist, she finds that the rules a southern belle lives by—being nice to everyone, accentuating her femininity, and minding her manners—don’t necessarily guarantee success in Manhattan. She may indeed be accumulating new friends and opportunities along with boldfaced mentions and a very eligible bachelor boyfriend, but someone is plotting her very public downfall. When Minty gets to the top of the social ladder, she must decide if the glamorous life she thought she wanted is really everything she hoped it would be.
Tinsley Mortimer’s insider observations about New York’s elite are deliciously witty, and the heart of her book is that of an irresistibly lovable young woman who is on the brink of finding her dream.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Reality show star Mortimer draws from her experience as a Southern belle in New York City society's limelight for her charmingly fluffy debut. Mary "Minty" Davenport is a wealthy socialite from Charleston, South Carolina. Since she was a little girl, she's been fascinated by New York City, and now that she's arrived to pursue a career in fashion, she wastes no time in grabbing the rungs of Manhattan's social ladder and starting to climb. Minty picks up with the same privileged circle she ran with in Charleston, including Tripp du Pont, her teenage crush. Though he broke her heart one youthful summer years ago, she never let the flame die, and Tripp appears to have also kept the candle lit. They kick off a whirlwind and highly publicized courtship, and despite warning signs of his unfaithfulness, Minty and Trip marry. But as the relationship begins to show its true colors, Minty must reckon with what she really wants out of her new life in NYC and whether her husband is really the One. Mortimer's entr e into fiction isn't particularly memorable, but readers will delight in watching Minty sweetly take on the Big Apple.
Customer Reviews
Great book
This book was absolutely amazing. I love fashion, love and a socialite. I finished this book in less than 24 hours, and to say I was obsessed is an understatement. I fell in love with characters, and wish I could read more books from Tinsley. Such a fun and easy read.
Horrific!
I wanted a light "beach" read as I needed to unwind after a long week of work. This was horrific! Do not waste your money.
Insipid!
Lacking in both charm and depth I only hope the author is less insipid and inane as the main character in this book! Save your money and read an US mag instead!
