Publisher Description

Fans of Kimberly McCreight’s Reconstructing Amelia and Mary Kubica’s The Good Girl will devour this stunning debut novel about two college girls whose friendship implodes right before one of them disappears. Told in first person by the girl left behind, Love Her Madly is a fascinating exploration of the twists and turns of an intense female friendship gone awry.

Glo never expected to become best friends with a girl like Cyn. Blonde, blue-eyed, and a little wicked, Cyn is the kind of girl other girls naturally envy—yet, surprisingly, she embraces Glo like a sister after they transfer to the same tiny college in Florida. With a fresh start at a new school and Cyn as her best friend, Glo finds what she has been waiting for her whole life: excitement, acceptance, and the joys of female friendship.

Until she and Cyn fall for the same guy.

It’s Cyn who talks Glo into sharing Raj. Half the time he’ll be Cyn’s boyfriend, the other half he’ll be Glo’s. Glo reluctantly accepts the proposition—how can she say no without jeopardizing her friendship?—and for a while, everything goes smoothly. Until Glo realizes that she doesn’t know her BFF as well as she thinks. Until the simmering tension between Glo and Cyn boils over during a study abroad trip to Costa Rica. Until Cyn disappears into the jungle of a secluded island, leaving Glo searching for answers.

Until, seven years later, Glo spots a familiar pair of blue eyes behind a sweep of blonde hair in the streets of New York City. Is it really Cyn, or is the guilt of survival catching up with Glo? And has Glo told us everything we need to know?

Engaging and Captivating

Love Her Madly is an engaging and captivating, psychological thriller.

Although Cyn and Glo had polar opposite personalities, they were the best of friends. Cyn was a risk taker with a ferocious appetite for excitement, and Glo was the responsible friend; the one who tried to talk sense into Cyn, and keep her safe.

Cyn and Glo’s friendship was close and straight forward until they fell in love with the same guy, Raj. Glo was livid, when Cyn announced in front of Raj, that they should share him. Glo felt that she had no choice but to go along with it. Anger, hurt, and jealousy were the common denominators in the girl’s lives during this period. Little did they know, though, that things were about to get much worse.

Cyn and Glo’s world took a devastating turn when they accepted an invitation, to a moonlit party in Costa Rica, on a secluded Island. Glo, unfortunately, was the only person in their group who returned from that Island. Cyn was presumed dead, along with their two newly acquainted, male companions.

Flo and Raj mourned Cyn’s death for years. But when the two of them started to spot Cyn in NYC, they thought that their imaginations had gone wild. Raj missed Cyn, and Glo suffered from survivor’s guilt, but was that enough to conjure up visions of Cyn? Could she really be alive after all this time? And if that was the case, what would happen to Glo’s relationship with Raj?

The book is well-written and captivating. I did find some of the character’s behavior confusing, though, and had to re-read some sections, to make sense of it. Without wanting to give anything away, I’ll just say; that people aren’t always who they appear to be and that friendship’s safety net, isn’t always without holes. All in all, though, I loved the book and would recommend giving this highly entertaining book a read.

I received this ARC from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Love her madly

I didn't really like this book. I found the main characters to be somewhat frivolous and unrelatable. They made bad decisions and then seemed surprised things didn't end well. This is probably the first and last book I will read by this author.
