Each leaves Johnny physically diminished and psychically damaged. Actor Franco performs at full thespian force, telling the story in a naturalistic, almost mesmerizing manner with distinctive voices for all of the book's many characters: Johnny's highlights his affability, integrity, pain, and inner turmoil. The villainous Stillson sounds smarmy, aggressive, and insane in the way that can drive a man to kick a dog to death. Excellent story. Fast paced, scary, thrilling, emotional, one of Kings best!
The Dead Zone is riveting and prescient.
I saw the 1983 movie first. Had never had occasion to read the book until I heard Steven King compare the book’s antagonist, Greg Stillson, to Donald Trump when giving an interview. I remembered from the movie how true the comparison was but wanted to now read the book—a book examines and provides more insight into its characters than a movie can ever do. The foreshadowing of Trump in the character of Stillson is amazing. Donald Trump is the real-life Greg Stillson, and Steven King predicted his coming in this novel, The Dead Zone.
The book is riveting. You can’t put it down. Bravo, Mr. King. You are a genius writer.
