Publisher Description

For three hundred years, a stolen relic passes from one fortune-seeker to the next, indelibly altering the lives of those who possess it.

In modern-day Tokyo, Robin Swann’s life has sputtered to a stop. She’s stuck in a dead-end job testing antiquities for an auction house, but her true love is poetry, not pottery. Her stalled dissertation sits on her laptop, unopened in months, and she has no one to confide in but her goldfish.

On the other side of town, Nori Okuda sells rice bowls and tea cups to Tokyo restaurants, as her family has done for generations. But with her grandmother in the hospital, the family business is foundering. Nori knows if her luck doesn’t change soon, she’ll lose what little she has left.

With nothing in common, Nori and Robin suddenly find their futures inextricably linked to an ancient, elusive tea bowl. Glimpses of the past set the stage as they hunt for the lost masterpiece, uncovering long-buried secrets in their wake. As they get closer to the truth—and the tea bowl—the women must choose between seizing their dreams or righting the terrible wrong that has poisoned its legacy for centuries.

Intriguing New Story. Fabulous Characters.

I’ll start at my ending conclusion after reading the book. This is one of the best books I have read in years. This is one book I will read often to appreciate the finely composed story with characters I could form a friendship with and reading again will give me the opportunity to retrace all the memorable details around Japan. Interest was created with the first pages and as the story unfolds to an amazing ending. This is an excellent book to read and recommend.

“The Last Tea Bowl Thief” captivated my imagination and interest. An excellent read. The characters are all woven together in an incredible story surrounding a tea bowl. I was kind of thinking...so what could be so interesting about a tea bowl and the theft? I was surprised how quickly I was pulled into this fascinating story. Throughout the story there is the cast of key characters, and, instances where interesting support characters are brought in with the ease of a creative writer on a new path. Characters are developed enough to feel like you’ve known them all along. You’ll get pulled into their world. Keep an eye out for the pottery, poetry and baseball card museum kid....a gem of kid-reality....a funny serious minded kid with a plan and an interesting story involvement that unfolds. All of the characters are well created and engaging throughout the entire timeline of the book. No weak points in this book. The book builds over the course of time moving between occurrences in the centuries old Japanese origin and handling of the tea bowl and into a modern day discovery. This is a breakthrough and refreshing new story. Jonelle Patrick stepped up to a new level writing with this fascinating story.

The story pulled me into the creation of character involvement that is continuously interesting surrounding the theft of a tea bowl. Fascinating read. Well worth putting in your Library and Reading Now shelf.

Start to finish character and story creativity. The book is intriguing enough that I will read it again, and again after that. Character details and location nuances shine throughout the book.
