A Brush with Respectability

Una Laird has never been one to play by the rules.

Edinburgh, 1798. Now married to her sweetheart Simon, Una is determined to leave her past behind and become a respectable businesswoman. Investing in a whaling ship seems the perfect opportunity to secure her future, but the supposedly honourable world of maritime trade proves every bit as ruthless as the streets she once knew.

When her crewmen are seized by a Royal Navy press gang, Una takes matters into her own hands. A daring rescue leaves her aboard Persevere, bound for the treacherous waters of the Arctic.

But Una has never been one to forgive a betrayal. Setting her sights on revenge, she uncovers a web of corruption and criminal dealings. If respectable society insists on fighting dirty, Una is more than prepared to use the skills she once hoped to abandon.

Set in eighteenth-century Edinburgh and the whaling grounds of the Arctic, A BRUSH WITH RESPECTABILITY is the second novel in The Journals of Una Luath, a richly atmospheric historical adventure filled with daring schemes and an unforgettable heroine.
