Julianna has been dressing in men's clothing to protect Tuck's Tower ever since the death of her father. The elegant dress her late mother made for her sits unused. Washing herself with fragrant soap is the only ladylike luxury she enjoys. One night, she is alerted to an emergency in the forest, where she finds a seriously wounded man.
