Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non; he wrote his own fairy tales such as Prince Prigio (1889) and Prince Ricardo of Pantouflia (1893), and wrote numerous historical texts.

Fairer than a Fairy is a short fairy tale by Andrew Lang which was included to The Yellow Fairy Book. The plot of the story tells the reader about a king who had a daughter so beautiful that he named her “Fairer than a Fairy”. This enraged the fairies, who resolved to kidnap her. Several years passed, during which time Princess grew accustomed to her lonely life, obeyed the Fairy's orders and by degrees forgot all about the court of the King her father. The princess was awaiting for her rescue and fortunately she could hear the voice of a young man. Will she manage to escape? Read the story till the end.
