They say you can't go home again...

Layla Davis loves her life in the big city. She doesn't want to leave Charlotte and go back home to Chestnut Grove, but after her father's death, her mother is in need of more help than she's willing to admit. Layla doesn't go back without some resentment, further fueled by running into her ex, Jake.

Jake Parsons is amused to run into his ex on the side of the road, her electric car out of juice. She tries to refuse his help, because she's always been stubborn, but an uncomfortable truck ride later, she's forced to thank him and hopes she will never see him again.

But everyone knows that's not how small towns work.
