Thorne—once the king's personal assassin, whose dark, tortured past led him directly to the inside of a jail cell. Now free, Thorne will do anything to change his fate for good. But what does he really want from this journey—redemption or revenge?

And Shanta—a beautiful orphan desperate to learn where she belongs in this world, and whose strange power just might hold the key to unlocking the scrolls themselves.

As this unlikely trio ventures into the unknown, they soon find the scrolls aren't just lost, but guarded—guarded by fearsome creatures, by dangerous rivals, by threats unlike any they've encountered before.
