In the eight hundred years since the overthrow of the mighty High Kingdom of Faiden, the Oracle has been quietly arranging the fates of the children who will someday challenge the darkness that is consuming the world of Midia. Ferremor, a half-demon shadow master, is abandoned on the stoop of a ramshackle orphanage as a newborn. Kenneth, an infant fae with strange wings, is left on the doorstep of a human general. Young Vera, the Royal Imperial Princess of Faiden who narrowly survived the slaughter of her family, awakens from an eight-century mystical slumber. All three were displaced by the misfortunes of their past and struggle to survive and find happiness in a kingdom ruled by ruthless sorcerers and their dark lord.
