La enseñanza de la ingeniería en el siglo XXI
Este trabajo rememora algunos hechos en la historia de la ciencia y la tecnología, que ejercen intensa influencia en la configuración del futuro de la enseñanza de la Ingeniería. Relata los ambiciosos sistemas procognitivos vislumbrados en el siglo XX por R. Buckminster Fuller y J. C. Licklider, aplicados a los procesos de interacción, generación, organización y empleo del conocimiento, que están revolucionando la práctica de la ingeniería.
Fuller entrevió la posibilidad de albergar cada día más conocimiento en las memorias de las computadoras y de poder transferirlo de manera automática a las aplicaciones. Licklider puntualizó que la gente podría manejar mejor la mayor parte de su interacción con el conocimiento si controlaba y monitoreaba el procesamiento de la información. Es necesario en el ejercicio de la profesión participar en la gran conversación de nuestro tiempo, evitando el aislamiento y la especialización exagerada, y valorar la creciente interacción de la ciencia y de la tecnología con la sociedad.
Teaching engineering in the twenty-first century
This work remembers some facts that occurred in the history of science and technology, which intensely influence the configuration of the future teaching of engineering. It recalls he ambitious procognitive systems imagined during the 20th century by R. Buckminster Fuller and J. C. Licklider, applied to the processes of interaction, generation, organization and use of knowledge, which are changing the practice of engineering. Fuller anticipated the possibility to store more knowledge every day in computer memories and to be able to transfer this to the applications in a more automatic way. Licklider specified that people could better handle the greater part of their interaction with knowledge, if they controlled and monitored the processing of the information. It is necessary for the exercise of the profession to participate in the great conversations of our time, avoiding isolation and excessive specialization, and to value the increasing interaction of science and technology with society.
