Mr Liverpool: Ronnie Moran

There will, quite simply, never be another Ronnie Moran.

With 49 years of service to Liverpool Football Club in roles such as player, first-team coach and even caretaker manager, he played a massive part in bringing 24 major honours to the club he grew up supporting. He even had the honour of leading the team out at Wembley for the 1992 FA Cup final.

But it wasn’t just what he did, it was the way he did it – and who he did it with. As part of the fabled Anfield ‘Bootroom’, he worked closely with Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Kenny Dalglish and Roy Evans, setting the standards for others to follow.

His direct style gave him a reputation as the bad cop at the club but Ronnie wasn’t there to be liked; he was there to help Liverpool win. And that, so often, was what they did.

The man nicknamed ‘Bugsy’ is the last member of the legendary Bootroom to tell his story. He has done so with the help of his son Paul, who is determined to celebrate his dad’s career and ensure his many special memories live on.

Ronnie Moran is one of the most important men in the history of one of Europe’s greatest football clubs. If anyone deserves the title Mr Liverpool, it is him.
