The Fire Within

The Fire Within is the first novel by Patricia Wentworth, the pseudonym of Dora Amy Elles, a British author. Best known for her series of crime fiction novels featuring Miss Maud Silver, a retired governess who becomes a private detective. In this tale of the heart, a passionate young woman and her married sister compete for the affections of a handsome doctor. With a dash of mysticism and a hint of murder, The Fire Within is a compelling love story in its own right and a revealing glimpse into the genesis of the indomitable Miss Silver.
