Blackest Night

Rosa has moved from the city to a small fishing village on the Colombian coast, beginning married life far from everything she knows. When her husband suddenly leaves her to renew his visa, she is left alone in their half-built home with only the men of the village and the jungle for company – all as the darkest night of the year draws in, the fabled noche negra. As evening light begins to fail, unease grips Rosa: a knife goes missing, she hears movement in the treeline, and the shadows of the past begin to haunt her mind…

Blackest Night is a thrilling tale of paranoia and suspicion from one of South America’s greatest living writers. In stark, pristine prose, Pilar Quintana transforms a woman’s isolation into a timeless meditation on uncertainty, violence and the pitch-black power of fear.
