Appellant Cochran was charged with first-degree murder and tried by a jury in the Marion Criminal Court. On January 18, 1977, the jury found him guilty of second-degree murder and further recommended that he be imprisoned for life. Appellant was accordingly sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
