As the editors of Amazing Stories, the magazine where the Mayhem stories appeared, described him in one issue: "If you've never read a Johnny Mayhem story before, you are in for a treat. Here three more the the never-reprinted Johnny Mayhem novelettes. The first story, "A Place in the Sun," takes place on the starship Glory of the Galaxy, where the most important statesmen in the galaxy are being held captive and shot straight for Earth's sun.
