Jacob and Joseph

The study of Bible characters often brings before us challenging spiritual lessons that illustrate truths taught elsewhere in Scripture. These studies focus on individual men and women who, although they lived centuries ago, faced issues that remain deeply relevant today.

The sixth book in the Ritchie Character Series examines the lives of Jacob and Joseph. Both accounts contain valuable practical lessons for those who wish to study and learn from these remarkable Old Testament characters.

Jacob was a patriarch, pilgrim, parent, prince, and prophet. His life has been the subject of countless sermons and books, with his failures often presented as warnings of the "Jacob" found in all of us. As we follow his story, we are reminded of the great biblical principle of sowing and reaping. Yet alongside his failures, we also see the patient and gracious hand of God shaping His servant and bringing him to a triumphant end. When God declares Himself to be "the mighty God of Jacob" (Psalm 132:5), we are left in awe of such amazing grace.

The story of Joseph is one of faithfulness, suffering, and divine purpose, closely intertwined with the life of Jacob. While Abraham inspires us with his faith and Joseph with the beauty of his character, Jacob perhaps resonates most deeply with our own experiences and struggles. These biographies are not given to intimidate us, but to instruct and encourage us as we seek to walk with God today.
