Lea Rubinstein was a pretty girl who's lived a sheltered, quiet life in Dés (Dej), Romania before the second World War. The city, nicknamed Little Jerusalem was home to a close-knit Transylvanian Jewish community.
The War swept it all away.
Lea or Lajcsu and her whole family was sent to Auschwitz. Lea survived - because instinctively she lied about her age and her beautiful hair mesmerized a German soldier.
This book recounts her childhood, the Shoah years and the years after the war. It offers a very interesting insight on how the survivors tried to cope with their tragedy.
