"What have I gotten myself into?" is whispered by Sarah, soon after her wedding, as her husband's self-confidence turns egotistical, and his narcissistic characteristics come to light.
Sarah is a young ambitious interior designer who through blind infatuation enters a marriage that changes into an emotionally abusive union with a charming narcissistic man who almost destroys her and her will to succeed.
My debut novel, set in the Vietnam era and present day, tells the story of Sarah's struggles to remain committed to their marriage plagued by Glenn's controlling, manipulative emotional assaults. After his disturbing death, Sarah decided to leave the city, and move to her country farmhouse near friends. Through her courageous intentions, Sarah is determined to rebuild her shattered life.
After some time through friends she is introduced to Jim Alexander, who is fascinated by Sarah and the alluring influence of her shy dark brown eyes. Sarah is awakened by Jim's personality, but reserved because the wounds and suspicions of her marriage have not been defeated. Jim asked Sarah to help renovate parts of his ancestral home, and with reluctance she agrees. Over time as Sarah works with Jim, she sees his trustworthy, truthful character and is inspired to conquer her fears once and for all. As she forgives her past and the flashbacks soften, she grows from a bewildered woman into one with hope. With the renewal of her outlook on life, a true friendship between these second timers unfolds as they handle the conflicts of life and discover the past connection that gives strength to their relationship.
