The Artranus Rebellion has been over for fifty years and the Imperial Federated Worlds are at peace once more. As the scars of the social strife heal and fade, the emperor, Hal’Kar’Nilant, abdicates for a peaceful retirement, handing the throne to his daughter, Hal’Kar’Soukiva. The new empress rules wisely, ably supported by her husband and wife, Hal’Kar’Crineal and Hal’Kar’Cyndora. With the need for a large military much reduced, Space Corps has been down-sized and returned to its pre-rebellion role as an exploration force. Its main task now is to scout outside the borders of the empire and survey new worlds, searching for planets that might one day become new Imperial colonies. However, the galaxy is large, and more than humans live there, as the Empire is about to find out…
