Sometimes, the worst thing imaginable turns out very different from what we expect.

Having never failed anyone’s expectations, Alex finds it difficult to deal with having lost a valuable artifact, lied to Pritchard, and falsified a report to Mr. Henry.
The consequences? A whole new life in the States lies ahead of him. But Alex doesn’t like change. The only things that keep him somewhat grounded are the callous hands of the sadist, Dominic, and the support of the young demigod, Kaleb.

Moving to another continent doesn’t mean they escape an adversary so invisible that even the Earned won’t see them coming.

Kaleb continues to learn and evolve as both an Earned and a Witch. It’s not smooth sailing when also having to deal with the animosity he meets for being a half-breed. His main solace is his mortal lover, Mickey, but he can’t support Kaleb in everything, considering he has no idea that he’s dating a demigod.

With everything happening in Kaleb’s life and the problems Alex keep running into, Kaleb struggles harder and harder to balance it all.

Warning! This book ends on a hard cliffhanger! If you’re bothered by that, don’t continue this series until you have book #4, Saving Starfish, as #3, Marked by Shadow, will take a very necessary detour from the main storyline. It’s imperative to take that detour due to the massive worldbuilding and the development of the main storyline, which we return to in #4.
