Well written start to the new canon
While I was initially disappointed established characters and settings were not part of the central story, I fell into the narrative easily and enjoyed this novel overall. However, anyone expecting this to be a Thrawn trilogy for the new canon will be disappointed. That being said, the story of the Wesley’s and the rag tag team they pull together to take on Imperial remnants is every bit as fun and thought provoking and very much in the vein of what we all know and love about Star Wars. It is in the interludes, however, where Wendig weaves what I found to be the most compelling elements of the novel. The glimpses these provide of the many lives affected by the fall of the Empire provides context for the state of the galaxy and depth to the story being told. Overall, Wendig has successfully set about introducing interesting new characters and stories in the post-Endor galaxy with a fun, rich, and well told space adventure.
