A girl is taken from the streets of Oxford. But it's unlike any abduction DI Fawley's seen before . . .

Faith Appleford was attacked, a plastic bag tied over her head, taken to an isolated location . . . and then, by some miracle, she escaped.

What's more, when DC Erica Somer interviews Faith, she quickly becomes convinced that Faith knows who her abductor is.

Yet Faith refuses to press charges.

Without more evidence, it's looking like the police may have to drop the case.

But what happens if Faith's attacker strikes again?

Updated police procedural

Author
2018. Book #5 The Whole Truth came out in April 2021. Ms H isn’t done with DI Frawley either. She has #6 is pencilled in for March 2022.

In brief
A trans-teen girl who moved to Oxford with Mum and her younger sister to make the change. She’s tad standoffish at school but doing very nicely with her fashion blog when she’s sexually assaulted. She refuses to make a complaint because, you know, she hasn’t had the operation yet and her assailant got a bit of a shock when he removed her underpants, which meant she didn’t get raped, plus he put a hood over her eyes so she never saw his face. The coppers are thinking hate crime when, a week or so later, a hot cisgender schoolgirl gets the full treatment add ends up dead in a creek in the rain. There are similarities to the modus operandi of a psycho dude who was put away 20 years earlier for multiple rapes and murders, and still maintains he got stitched up by the cops. Our boy has skin in that game. Not only did he catch the dude, he ended up married to the final almost victim. Now psycho dude is coming up for parole. Is there a copycat at work? Did Frawley put away the wrong man?

Writing
Like a screenplay with multiple scenes of varying lengths from different POVs (cops, vics etc) spliced together in rapid sequence, although in chronological order fortunately. This moves the action along nicely in a cinematic way. The mandatory twists and turns occur. Denouement satisfactory if predictable once a Mean Girls scenario is uncovered.

Bottom line
An old fashioned police procedural updated for the Netflix world. Slick, entertaining, not particularly memorable.
