Beautiful! Thrilling! And refreshingly Australian!
Margaret Hickey’s newest Australian crime novel is a brilliant entry in a catalogue of should-be National classics. In a way so unique to her style, she captures Victoria’s charm, culture and visceral landscape with a thrilling narrative and well-rounded mystery. As implausible to readers as it is to the lead detectives, the novel somehow utilises politics, world-issues and personality most authors wouldn’t dare tap into to conclude the whodunit and wields a series of characters with more realism and clarity than many Literary greats. It is entirely refreshing to read something so close to the Aussie hometown: past, present and future. As the epilogue comes to a close, An Ill Wind is a tale of retrospective Australia, stunning, nostalgic, and etched with a chilling history. An absolute marvel!
