It traces the lives of thirteen-year-old Jesse and his younger sister Rachel as they’re dragged from one unstable home to the next by their neglectful, alcoholic mother Gwen. If Jesse could run away, he would, but he cannot leave Rachel, whom he’s promised to protect. And run away to where? He’s already spent most of his life on the road. Told through Jesse’s eyes, the youthful, plain-spoken narration is beautifully written, steeped in uniquely Australian vernacular and lore. Blood finds its dramatic propulsion in the children’s grim plight, and as it builds towards its unbearably tense climax you won’t want to put it down.

This had me riveted from beginning to end.
Totally engaging, it was enhanced by excellent production and narration.
Can’t wait to read more of this author’s work.
