Publisher Description

Greg Mullins followed his father into fighting bushfires - it was in the blood. He fought major fires around Sydney and the Blue Mountains for decades, and studied bushfires in Europe, Canada and the US. He risked his life in the 1994 Sydney fires and, later, during our catastrophic Black Summer of 2019-20. As a career firefighter, he worked his way up the ranks to become Commissioner of one of the world's largest fire services, Fire and Rescue NSW, for nearly fourteen years. When it came to natural disasters there was little, if anything, he hadn't witnessed first-hand.

Over five decades he watched as weather patterns and natural disaster risks changed, seeing bushfires becoming bigger, hotter and more destructive. He talked to scientists and weighed their evidence with his experience, coming to the realisation that man-made global warming was setting the stage for a deadly firestorm. In early 2019 he tried to warn the government that a Black Summer was imminent so that adequate preparations could be made. . .

But when he and former fire chiefs from across the country tried to meet with politicians to sound an urgent warning, they were ignored.

Combining thrilling stories of what it's like to be on the front line of Australia's first giga-fire with the hard truths of human-caused climate change, Firestorm is a compelling account of raging fire, political evasion, settled science, and one man's courageous, urgent call to action for all Australians.

Tough book to get through.

In the 1920's, the Serbian astronomer, Milutin Milankovitch, proposed an astronomical explanation for long-term, cyclical global climate changes that caused the Pleistocene "ice ages". By observing variations in the Earth's orbital geometry and axial tilt, and calculating the time for a complete cycle of change to occur, Milankovitch predicted a pattern of varying insolation and global climate change. According to his theory, three socalled Milankovitch cycles—precession, obliquity, and eccentricity—repeat approximately every 21, 41, and 100 thousand years, respectively.

It is not only man made climate change. A rank preposterous notion. Give us then the break down of the ice ages and the post warming there of??

This book is hypocritical in its arguments and only sees to cause chaos. If the assertion is that Australia is one of the highest contributors to climate change through selling of coal. Please then tell us who is buying it ?? And what their idea of a zero target looks like?? You mentioned China has a net zero target by 2060 and is doing far better for having a target compared to Australia. So 40 years from now? Half a century! And that seems reasonable? The largest polluter on the map!

All it says is the bias of left leaning ideology is rife with yourself. I remember when 30 or so years ago we were going to be in the next ice age by now! What happened there Greg? A lot of cry wolf going on! And this scare campaign of complete miss calculated “science” can be proven over and over again.
