Film director Fred Schepisi and documentary film producer Lowell Handler and on this archival edition of Fresh Air. Along with fellow Australian directors Peter Weir and Bruce Beresford, Fred Schepisi was considered one of the leaders of the "Australian New Wave." His film, The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith, was the first Australian film ever accepted in competition in the Cannes Film Festival, and his first film distributed in the U.S. (in 1980). Schepisi went on to direct Plenty, Roxanne, A Cry in the Dark, The Russia House, and Six Degrees of Separation. Handler has Tourette's syndrome and has traveled the world photographing people with TS. His documentary, Twitch and Shout, is about people with Tourette's.
