DS Lucas Walker is back home in Queensland, working in the small outback town of Katima following the dramatic fallout from his last case. As he adjusts to this career detour, his focus suddenly shifts when the body of a young man is found hanging in the local park.

What at first looks like a tragic suicide, soon leads Walker down a treacherous path. Similarities with an unsolved case arise, and when Walker and his young partner are first on the scene of a shocking murder the scope of what they could be dealing with explodes.

The victim is a national cricketing hero, and the brutality of his death creates an unparalleled media frenzy. As Walker is sidelined by Homicide, he must go his own way to unpick the web of deceit and corruption at the heart of these deaths. Only then will he know if they are connected, and how - but at what cost?

Meanwhile, the joy of being near his hometown has taken a dark turn, with Walker's niece having got in with a dangerous crowd. Can he get justice for these victims, and keep his own loved ones safe?
