Publisher Description
On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it.
In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all. On the eve of Armageddon, with the entire galaxy at war, seven pilgrims set forth on a final voyage to Hyperion seeking the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope - and a terrible secret. And one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands.

good read
a great read, not up to the greats like Arthur c. Clark or Peter F. Hamilton but a good read in its own right.
give it a try if your looking for a new twist on things.
Brilliant
Deep, imaginative, deeper still. Full of intensity, poetry, technology, character depth & new ideas that meld together like 4 or 5 stories in one. This guy "Dan"knows how to write FULLSTOP. He has to be one of the best writer out there. It takes a little concentration & definitely a repeat read to delve into the depths this book has to offer. It's rich, colourful, descriptive content borders on genius. This is up there with 'Dune' by Frank Herbert for imaginative story telling. The writing is up there with the brilliance of Cormac McCarthy as 'Blood Meridian' Wow just have to gasp at how much an author can bring to one's mind !
