Publisher Description
Lou and Josh have been together for 14 years. They share two kids, a mortgage, careers and plenty of history. Now, after a particularly fraught Christmas, Lou is ready to ask herself: is this marriage worth hanging on to?
Every month for a year, Lou sets a different test for their relationship - from daily sex to brutal honesty - to help her decide if she should stay or go. Secrets are exposed, old wounds reopened and a true-to-life suburban love story unfolds.
I Give My Marriage a Year paints a sharply accurate, often hilarious picture of a modern Australian marriage. Lou and Josh are a couple on the edge, and their efforts to bring their relationship back from the brink will resonate with anyone who has ever asked themselves: is this enough?
Whose side will you take? Who deserves a second chance? And will Josh and Lou stay together or split for good?

'Poignant, compelling and full of aha moments, this book will have you nodding, laughing and crying, and most of all, incredibly invested in the outcome.' Sally Hepworth
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With her third release, Holly Wainwright—who’s also the content lead for Australian women’s media website Mamamia—hones her ability to create relatable, contemporary fiction. The novel opens with protagonist Lou deciding to end her marriage to long-term partner Josh in one year, unless things improve. Each month she tries something new (daily sex, counselling, etc.), but we’re quick to learn—via Wainwright’s clever choice to alternate perspective between Lou and Josh—that her relationship woes are far from one-sided. Wainwright excels at making us constantly second guess each character’s trustworthiness; the more we get to know them, the more flawed, complex and human they become. Fans of Liane Moriarty and Zoë Foster Blake best plan a long walk—this audiobook is designed to be devoured quickly.
Customer Reviews
Thoroughly enjoyable
I really loved this. It felt like a friend or family member. Like you could relate and had me really feeling like I was there with her. Beautifully written.
Such a journey told with poignancy and live
Enjoyed this story of hope and forgiveness with such a raw edge of humanity. Many profound moments but without the judge voice or the headmaster’s, but neither trite nor superficial or preachy. An amazing story of family and the lengths required to honour the family bonds
A beautiful book
The beauty of this book is it talks about the guts of marriage, the everyday stuff but in a way that you can relate. It makes us review ourselves in this space. Thank you Holly for making me appreciate my marriage, my story, the good and the ugly through reading this book. Outlouder Fan Emma
