‘Where have you been all our lives, Mindy?’ Glamour
Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: comedienne, actress, obedient child of immigrant professionals and, now, writer. With a blend of witty confessions and unscientific observations, Mindy writes about everything from being a timid young chubster afraid of her own bike to living the Hollywood life, dating, friendships and planning her own funeral – all executed with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls.

A disappointing read, lacking maturity and a real-world perspective
This book ultimately fell short of my expectations, proving to be an underwhelming experience overall. The writing style felt surprisingly immature, and I found myself consistently put off by the authors frequent and seemingly shallow references to wanting to be ‘comedy famous’ this kind of disconnected aspiration felt ridiculous and far removed from any semblance of real-world living. One particular jarring section involved comments made about classic song Jack and Dianne, for some of us, we did have that life at school, and to assume no one did shows a lack in awareness and research. That song brings back fabulous memories of high school. It seems she lives in a siloed world where fame and fortune seeking has affected her judgement. The narrators voice was also a problem - too high pitched too nasally, it was just not enjoyable. I couldn’t finish it, the voice and the constant needing and wishing to be something or someone else, drove me crazy.
The book (what I read of it) did not make me laugh. She was trying too hard.
