One December

     Nikki Mancini, a high school teacher in New York, had a childhood crush on her brother's best friend, Mike. As they grew up, they drifted apart, but she never quite got over him.

     Mike has his own past hurts to resolve, having lost both parents in an accident when he was fourteen. He's tried to escape those painful memories by starting a new life on the West Coast.
