This exciting fantasy adventure turns the “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale into something totally fresh—and often very funny. Poly has just awoken from a three-centuries-long nap. She can sense that something magical has happened to her. Unfortunately, it seems to have something to do with this cute-but-annoying wizard named Luck. (Also, what’s this spindle doing here?) We adored W.R. Gingell’s irreverent twist on a familiar fable. Narrator Esther Wane expertly portrays all the lively supporting characters, including a magical boy who’s also a small dog. We loved following Poly and Luck through their astonishment, vexation, and eventual friendship—not to mention their delightfully snarky banter and possible attraction. The first book in Gingell’s Two Monarchies Sequence series redefines happily ever after.
