Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable and quiet life. His contentment is disturbed one day when the wizard, Gandalf, and the dwarves arrive to take him away on an adventure.
Smaug certainly looked fast asleep, when Bilbo peeped once more from the entrance. He was just about to step out on to the floor when he casught a sudden thin ray of red from under the drooping lid of Smaug’s left eye. He was only pretending to sleep! He was watching the tunnel entrance!
Whisked from his comfortable hobbit-hole by Gandalf the wizard and a band of dwarves. Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon…
‘A finely written saga of dwarves and elves, fearsome goblins and trolls… an exciting epic of travel and magical adventure, all working up to a devastating climax.’
A Classic, truly!
Martin Shaw, a.k.a. George Gently (for those who are familiar with the UK TV Series), narrate this classic by Tolkien with passion and expression that is unmistakably Shaw. A must for those who relish this tale of Bilbo Baggins of Bag End and his trip to relieve Smaug of his treasures. One can almost imagine themselves in Bilbo’s place.
One of the best
Martin Shaw has a beautiful voice and is very skilled at narration, something which is not as common in audio books as you might think. The Hobbit is a delightful tale for children and adults alike, the only pity of this edition is that it abridged instead of complete but regardless this is one of my favourite audio books ever.
Brilliant book, fantastic narration
Only 5 hours long, loved every minute of it! Must have audio book!
