The first book in the Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place—the acclaimed and hilarious Victorian mystery series by Maryrose Wood, perfect for fans of Lemony Snicket and Trenton Lee Stewart—has a brand-new look.
Discovered in the forest of Ashton Place, the Incorrigibles are no ordinary children. Luckily, Miss Penelope Lumley is no ordinary governess. A recent graduate of the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females, Penelope embraces the challenge of her new position. Though she is eager to instruct the children in Latin verbs and the proper use of globes, first she must eliminate their canine tendencies.
But mysteries abound at Ashton Place: Who are these three wild creatures? Why does Old Timothy, the coachman, lurk around every corner? Will Penelope be able to civilize the Incorrigibles in time for Lady Constance's holiday ball? And what on earth is a schottische?

AMAZING!!! Not just a children's story...
This series of books is quite possibly the best read audiobooks for children. The actress lends her voice to the countless characters seamlessly and with such variety, you could be forgiven for thinking this book is read by a full cast. The stories themselves are full of humour, history, a smattering of relevant Latin and always correct grammar, all of which is so frequently lacking in modern children's stories. The characters are rich (made gorgeous by the voice!) and the scenes are highly descriptive. My children listen to these stories over and over, and none of us are sick of them. We are waiting somewhat patiently for the final instalment in the series and are fascinated with how the story might end. I highly recommend this series of books to anyone who wants a laugh, some intrigue and to fall in love with some amazing characters.
