Ben Pecos has just graduated from Stanford and is returning to the Tewa Pueblo outside Albuquerque to spend the summer with his grandmother. When several elderly people at the pueblo die, including Ben's grandmother, the authorities don't question too deeply. But when the governor of the pueblo and several healthy young people suddenly die with the same symptoms, Indian Health Services calls in the CDC from Atlanta. Meanwhile, Julie Conlin, reporter, gets the plum assignment of covering the mystery killer disease. She knows it will be the kind of story that can propel her into an anchor position, but she is also attracted to handsome Ben Pecos.
