Publisher Description
Probably the most shocking of the Brontës' novels, this novel had an instant and phenomenal success and is widely considered to be one of the first sustained feminist novels. A mysterious widow, Mrs. Helen Graham, arrives at Wildfell Hall, a nearby old mansion. A source of curiosity for the small community, the reticent Helen and her young son Arthur are slowly drawn into the social circles of the village.

Classic book, classic voice
Story: 4-stars. I enjoyed this story almost as much as her sister’s Jane Eyre, and rather more than her other sister’s Wuthering Heights. The mystery of Mrs Graham was quite enthralling, and I was keen to learn the truth. Would read again.
I was so pleased with the narrator’s voice, I felt it was very well matched to the story. However I found there were a few times when a line was repeated as though it was another take. I also struggled with what was dialogue, who was saying what, and what was action as they seemed to blend together in the same tone.
