Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our life, health and longevity and yet it is increasingly neglected in twenty-first-century society, with devastating consequences: every major disease in the developed world - Alzheimer's, cancer, obesity, diabetes - has very strong causal links to deficient sleep.

In this audiobook, the first of its kind written by a scientific expert, Professor Matthew Walker explores twenty years of cutting-edge research to solve the mystery of why sleep matters. Looking at creatures from across the animal kingdom as well as major human studies, Why We Sleep delves into everything from what really happens during REM sleep to how caffeine and alcohol affect sleep and why our sleep patterns change across a lifetime, transforming our appreciation of the extraordinary phenomenon that safeguards our existence.

Includes a bonus PDF of graphs and diagrams.

Eye opening and backed by science

Love this book. I never knew the benefits and importance of sleep & have since prioritised getting a good nights 8 hours sleep - I feel better mentally, get sick less, and all the other benefits!
Great calming voice too

Great audiobook!!

I was first introduced to the author Matthew Walker from a Joe Rogan podcast. I’m so glad I stumbled across this title because it has taught me a lot about my sleep cycle. We spend half our life sleeping, yet no knowledge of the effects on lack of sleep. I highly recommend this book to those that want to know more about their body.

Game changer

What an interesting read, after applying new sleep into my life, I’ve lost weight, and my diabetes sugar levels are so much more acceptable. I wish everyone had this knowledge. Should be part of health education in every school! Thank you for devoting 30 years to give us this information.
