Threatened by French spies, assassins, and calculating suitors, can Lady Henrietta Harcourt trust the infamous rake, Lord Cordelier Rathbourne, with her carefully guarded family secrets?
Cord’s passionate attraction for the indomitable Henrietta hasn't diminished in his four years abroad, but neither has Henrietta’s memory of his libertine past.
As England’s new Director of Intelligence, Cord faces more peril protecting the Harcourt family of brilliant code breakers than he did as an undercover spy in Napoleonic France. Henrietta's brother, on a clandestine assignment in Paris, has vanished.
In pursuit of the missing brother, Henrietta and Cord become entangled in a web of international intrigue, danger, and white hot passion.

Free iBook. Regency. Good writing and good characters, but the lead female, despite supposedly being highly intelligent, makes dumb decisions that put her in danger.
I get frustrated that so many authors do this to their heroines.
Lady Henrietta’s linguist brother steals a code book in Paris and sends it to his sister Hen who is secretly the best code breaker in the family. Cord, an Earl, has been intrigued by his memory of feisty Henrietta for the last 4 years while he was a spy in Paris. Now back in England, he wants to court Henrietta, yet trying to keep his senior job in a spy ring secret. Having a mistress as part of his cover doesn’t help. Loved his aunt Euphemia’s character!
A romantic mystery
Although this book does contain spies, intrigue and a super smart heroine, the major focus is the romance that develops between the two main characters, Henrietta and Cord. Set well over a century ago, both characters are fiercely independent and protective of their families. They have experienced loss but are yet to experience love. The story took some time to develop and ordinarily I would have moved on. I did stick with it and it did heat up about a third of the way in with a descriptive and seductive story that keeps the reader asking for more. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated well with the presence of great characterisation and an enjoyable voice.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Suspenseful romantic intrigue
