Lucy gets the same bus every day. Today, her journey home will change her life.

Lucy can barely afford her weekly ticket for the grimy number 24, tries to avoid eye contact, and, if she’s really lucky, she gets a seat and reads a chapter of her book. But it’s a Friday – and the bus is always crammed at the end of the week. She keeps her elbows close and clings to a pole at every juddering stop.  All she wants to do is get home to her dog, Billy, the only comfort she has right now.

When she gets off the bus, something feels different.

An envelope stuffed with thousands of pounds is in her bag.

Is it the answer to her prayers, or the beginning of a nightmare?

Because, in the end, everything has a price.

A compulsive read that will have you absolutely hooked and reading late into the night.

Read what everyone is saying about A Face in the Crowd:

I was totally gripped. It only took me a few hours to read this cover to cover and I barely put it down… I loved the writing style and will definitely read more by this author.’  Goodreads Reviewer

'A novel of spine-tingling suspense that had me hooked from the very first paragraph.  A delicious sense of unease settles in early, and only gains momentum as the story progresses.  This is, quite simply, a fabulous read… A brilliantly crafted novel that I could not put down, even for a second.  To say that I was intrigued by the storyline is an understatement.  I was completely riveted from the word go.  Lucy is a fascinatingly drawn character, whose reliability as a narrator is suspect at best.  I adored this read, and would not hesitate to recommended it most highly.  Looking forward to reading much more from this author.’  Goodreads Reviewer

‘Kerry Wilkinson knows how to write!  And craft a really good psychological thriller… There are a myriad of interesting characters along the way with plenty of red herrings.  The end moves in like a runaway train and the twist is not what I was expecting.’ Goodreads Reviewer

A fantastic thriller that I could not put down. A new favorite author to add to my list. Fabulous writing and characters.’  Goodreads Reviewer

'I was drawn in by the concept and the beginning really hooked me. Kerry Wilkinson definitely has an original voice and I can see why there has been a lot of talk about this book. I definitely needed to know how it all turned out!’ I.A. Writes

‘I’ve really enjoyed all of the standalone novels I’ve read by Kerry Wilkinson and this one was no exception. It gripped me from the start and kept me turning the pages constantly. I liked Lucy’s character and really felt a connection to her and the people who lived around her, I think what was so emotive about this is the ‘everyday’ people who were central to the story. The people felt real…Really creepy and twisted, absolutely brilliant!’ Life Has a Funny Way

'I so enjoyed this book love this author… So twisty and addictive… will have you gripped.’  Goodreads Reviewer

'Great read. My first from this author but definitely not my last. Tons of suspense and twists and turns. Can't wait for more.’  Goodreads Reviewer

‘My first Kerry Wilkinson novel but absolutely not my last. From the offset you feel the tension build… Some great characters, an unusual plot and storyline and it's many twists make this a very enjoyable and engrossing read.’  NetGalley Reviewer

A great read

Someone drops several thousand pounds into your bag what would you do? Down on her luck, Lucy is faced with this decision when she finds money in her bag after getting off the bus coming home from work. After the death of her partner Ben in a train crash, the comfortable life she once lead has vanished. When details of Ben’s financial status reveal that they have no savings to speak of as well as a number of loans that need to be paid back that Ben took out in Lucy’s name without her knowledge, she is now virtually penniless working as a cashier in a supermarket living pay check to pay check to pay off these loans. But Lucy struggles with her conscious knowing that the right thing to do would be to hand the money in to the police, but the thought of being able to pay off some of her debt would just be too good an opportunity to pass up….wouldn’t it?

This is a quick easy read, with an intriguing storyline that kept my interest throughout. A thought provoking thriller, that makes you question your own morales and got me thinking what would I do if I found myself in this situation. I now plead the 5th so I don’t have to answer this..!

In terms of the characters in this story, whilst only a few, they are well developed and well written. We of course have main character Lucy, who immediately had my sympathy for her situation and what she was going through, her loyal dog Billie who I adored, her best friend Karen, who lives in the same building and who also won huge points with me on her music choices (I am a MASSIVE Kylie Minogue fan!), Harry a potential love interest who Lucy connected with via a dating service, Lauren, Lucy’s landlord although not a major character in the story but still worth a mention, Mark another resident who is completely unlikable and Jade who also lived in the building and is a subplot to this story after she has mysteriously disappeared without a word.

The setting of the book in a run down apartment building and not in the best of neighbourhoods, had a dreary atmosphere to it which set the tone of the story perfectly. I could always envision a dark cloud hanging over Lucy all of the time while she tried to make ends meet and get through each day.

Although I had a feeling about half way through how the story was going to unravel, I still found this an enjoyable read, that had the right amount of suspense in the lead up to the finale.

This is the first book I have read of Kerry’s. Having only started my blog earlier this year, I have been exposed to some wonderful authors that I may never have heard of if I hadn’t started doing this. I am happy to say that I am glad that Kerry is one of these authors. A great storyteller in the psychological thriller genre and I look forward to reading more of Kerry’s work.

Do I recommend this book:
