Jack Carter’s life has come full circle. He’s blamed his upbringing in country Victoria for his lack of friends and social circle. Always the lonely kid, the boy who was never invited to parties, he craved a connection. Seeking to quiet his lonely heart he moves to the City and finds solace in the game of chance. Luck in gambling brings him wealth and the friends he’d always wanted, but he learns the hard way that luck doesn’t last.
After a huge gambling loss and his parent’s untimely death, he finds himself alone once again and back in Crescent Hill…the very place he’d tried to escape. Returning home, he makes peace with his life and accepts his fate…he was meant to be alone, forever.
Piper Bennet is making a fresh start, away from the city and her ex-boyfriend. But she can’t help the way her heart reacts when she sees her neighbour Jack, because the pain in his eyes reminds her of her own sorrow. She wishes she could erase that pain, but she needs to be careful and not get too close or she might end up in a relationship like the one she has recently escaped from.
