Publisher Description
She's all that stands between him and his dream. But maybe it's time for a new dream…
Princess Alessa is finally free. Now that her sister is Queen and their rightful place in Atharia is secure, she can embark on a Season in London and begin work to help the less fortunate. Or she could—if only her gruff, blunt, and entirely too handsome guard would stay out of her way…
Rowan Oakley is on the verge of having the wealth and security he's always craved. All he must do to earn it is kill the fiery, obstinate, and very enticing Alessa. It's an easy assignment. Or it would be—if only he could keep his thoughts (and mouth) off his target…
It's not long before Rowan is caught between what he's always wanted, and the prospect of a love he never expected. But in the end, is happily ever after even a possibility for a royal and the poor, former street urchin sent to kill her?
Customer Reviews
Yikes!
Ok 1. Immersion ruined by use of Tulle and a corset again bare skin, no chemise. It made it hard to suspend disbelief
2. Time period not established. Hell this could have been set in the 2010s for all I know. Despite the use of a year in the epilogue. Modern clothing, slang and turns of phrase used.
3. Was I supposed to like either of these characters? Because he was there to kill her for money. And she mourned for her supposed ‘childhood friend’ for a paragraph at most (for the uninitiated that’s not how grief works) and tended towards spoiled Princess a lot.
4. This plot made ZERO SENSE. Why did they need to infiltrate when it was made ABUNDANTLY clear they could just shoot her in the street? Just why? Also His turn and sudden asking of questions as to why his employer would want the seemingly innocent dead would have worked better if he had actually bothered to you know THINK about the situation in book. Also also the chemistry felt forced. One minute he’s hating her because of the rich situation she was born into (which also isn’t fair on her) and the next he’s tonguing her tonsils. It was an ‘that escalated quickly’ situation on steroids.
‘A Dark Affair on Dower Street’ by Jillian Eaton does a VERY similar plot, but you know better.
