The story of a Tory and a Reformer.
I was totally enthralled by this story. It is about the developing strong feelings between two men who understand the differing needs of sexuality that some men experience. Although the sexual scenes are sometimes confronting, they are tempered with understanding and communication between the two men; Dominic, who is a Home Office man and a Tory, and Silas, book shop owner and writer of seditious material. They are totally opposite in their politics, views and social standing, and yet, they each give what the other needs.
The story also has these two men tangled up in the events of that time, the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 and The Six Acts that were passed in parliament, also in 1819, in response to the Peterloo Massacre. I have looked up these events and and was horrified at what was happening at that time.
K J Charles does a wonderful job of weaving the real events around the characters and involving them directly, bringing the historical aspect to life. She magically builds the tension and then, very cleverly manages her characters into working together for a solution to the danger that is aimed at Silas and making it possible for his HEA with Dominic.
Although this story has a strong political aspect to it, it is surprisingly easy to read. One of the best stories I have read in a while.
