Then, as if fate feels compelled to fulfill Briar's sister's warning about the dangers a single woman might face among felons, prisoners take over the prison's Health Services Unit. She and Walker are in mortal danger. Knox Callaghan who maintains that he's no murderer, despite the charge that landed him in Devil's Rock steps in, saves the day, and earns himself an early parole. After Knox's release, he just happens to meet Briar at a store near her apartment and she invites him up to share a carton of ice cream. The rest goes as expected. Jordon spins a good yarn, but this time it's impossible to overlook all the happenstance that leads to the happy ending.
