An Island Hell

An Island Hell is a personal recount of the authors time in the horrific Gulag prison located on Solovetsky Island, in the far north of the USSR, during the 1920s.

Malsagov writes about how and why he was imprisoned, what life is like in the camp itself, and how he and several others managed to escape with their lives—some of the very few to ever manage this.

This memoir serves to remind us that the modern world is often paved on the nightmarish trauma that others endured for a future they’d never see, and that sometimes, some of the most difficult periods of humanity are scarily close to being repeated.
